| The First Church of the Divine Light was founded in 1918 in Hartford, Connecticut, by an American Indian of the Pequot Tribe, The Reverend George Cogswell, to practice and promulgate the precepts of Spiritualism. At the present time, we hold worship services on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM in the Chapel of the Unitarian Meeting house at 50 Bloomfield Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut. Our order of service includes the Lord's Prayer, the 23rd Psalm, hymns, a healing service, a lecture, and a time when messages from Spirit are given. We are Christians and celebrate Christmas and Easter, although we accept Truth from other religions and philosophies. At The first Church of the Divine Light we know that love, like life, is stronger than so-called death. It is love that proves to be the compelling force striving to remove barriers, which man in his ignorance has created between this level of life and the next, in order to achieve spirit communication. There are many spheres of existence that are invisible to us because they function in a different manner from earth. Millions of vibrations of sound are lost to us because they are outside the range of our hearing. The same holds true regarding our sight. There are, however, highly sensitive individuals who have developed their innate natural psychic faculties to the result that they can tune in to vibratory rates on other levels of life or the so-called spirit world. These human sending and receiving sets are called mediums. They become agents through whom spirit communication is achieved. There is nothing supernatural about this happening though it is super-normal. Everything in the universe is in accordance with natural law. They were devised by God and God is perfect. God is all-powerful. God is Spirit. ... |
